Transportation Department Application
Job Requirements

1.   All persons applying for a position with the Transportation Department must be 18 years of age or older.

 

2.   Applicant must complete district job application, and submit driving record request.  Applicants currently licensed out of state must request their driving record.  Applicants with a Wyoming drivers license must print off the following form, complete it in ink, and deliver to the GCSD Transportation office.

3.   Applicant must attend one or more interviews with the Transportation Supervisor.

 

4.   Applicant must be able to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with passenger (P), school bus (S) and air brake endorsements.

 

5.   Applicant must complete all Goshen County School District employment paperwork to include payroll information, retirement forms, background check finger print cards, drug and alcohol test, and personnel record forms.

 

6.   Applicant must have a physical examination by a medical doctor approved by Goshen County School District #1.

         a.   All drivers must have a biennial physical. The physician shall use the U.S. Department of  Transportation, Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations drivers form.  After all training is complete and Supervisor has approved the applicant for employment with GCSD#1, the District will reimburse up to $150.00 for the cost of the physical.

 

7.  Transportation Department must receive clearance from Wyoming Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division, of driving record check.

 

The following safety materials and training will be covered prior to operating a school bus. Goshen County School District No. 1 has two certified trainers who will complete this training. Trainers are also third party testers for the State of Wyoming; they will administer the driving portion of the CDL test.

 

1.   A minimum of four hours classroom training to include safety videos, orientation to Goshen County School District policy and Chapter 20 State regulations.

 

2.   Orientation of school bus to include a pre-trip inspection and familiarization with interior of bus.

 

3.   Supervised behind the wheel driving with no student on board for a minimum of four hours.
              a.   Additional driving may be required at the request of either the trainer or driver.

 

4.   Final driving performance test of a minimum of 1.5 hours must be completed successfully. This test will be administered by one of two bus driver trainers or the Transportation Supervisor.

 

OUT OF STATE LICENSE

If you currently hold an out of state driver's license, you will need to obtain your driving record.  You may need to call the State Motor Vehicle Department where your license is registered, and have them send us a copy.  Copies may be faxed to the Transportation Office at 307-532-3997.

 

Purpose Statement

The job of Bus Driver was established for the purpose/s of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

 

Experience: Job related experience is preferred.

 

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Required Testing:   Random Alcohol and Drug Test; Pre-employment Drug Screening

 

Certificates & Licenses:  Class B CDL w/passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements; CPR/First Aid Certificate; DOT physical with medical examiner's certificate

 

Clearances:  Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance; DOT Driving Record Clearance Report
